Denver twirler Ashley Dolan, 15, won several awards at the 2009 U.S. National Baton Twirling Championships, held July 13 to 18, in Tucson, Arizona. Nearly 600 athletes from 21 states competed in the championships, which were sponsored by the U.S. Twirling Association.
Dolan, the feature twirler at Cherry Creek High School, earned second place in National Two Baton and third place in National Strut. She and her twirling partner, Chelsea Flaum, 16, the feature twirler at Arapahoe High School,captured second place in National Dance Twirl Pairs.

Dolan is the 2009 Colorado State Strut, Dance Twirl and Two Baton Champion. She is a sophomore at Cherry Creek High School, where she is co-captain of the CCHS Marching Band Color Guard. She also plays flute in wind ensemble.
