Team In Training® (TNT) participants came together September 26 for their longest training to date and to celebrate the work they have done in recent months to raise money for the
Rocky Mountain Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Seventy participants ran on the Highline Canal, starting at the First Church of the Nazarene in Denver, for the annual Mission Day event.
TNT honors survivors of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and memorializes those who have lost their battle to blood cancer.
TNT participants are on their way to raising over $300,000 to benefit
LLS.
Blood cancer survivors were also in attendance to inspire the runners on the route. Leukemia survivors, six-year-old Mason Bernard and 15-year-old Allison Bolan were stationed on the route to cheer on runners and walkers. Catherine Bernard, Mason's mom, is participating in her third
TNT event. She is one of 36 participants who will be running the
Nike Women's Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 18 in San Francisco, Calif.
In addition, Allison's father, Dr. Tom Bolan has recruited a group of his colleagues to participate in the
Denver Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 18 in Denver, Colo. Bolan's group is running in honor of Allison, a two-time leukemia survivor. Their group will join 61 other
TNT participants at the
Denver Marathon.
LLS's TNT is the world's largest endurance sports training program. The program provides training to run or walk marathons and half marathons or participate in triathlons and century (100-mile) bike rides. Since 1988, more than 380,000 volunteer participants have helped raise more than $900 million.
The
Rocky Mountain Chapter's TNT program, covering Colorado and Wyoming, has raised almost $17 million since its inception in 1992. They have trained over 5,000 athletes in that time and participated in over 30 different endurance events across the country and the world.
The enormous success of this program has helped make possible advances in blood cancer therapies and treatments that have prolonged and enhanced the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients.
