Blog Entry 42 of 97 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

25 reasons to celebrate
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 2/19/2007

So I turned the big 2-5 on Feb. 18 and to celebrate the momentous occasion, I partied all weekend. I first started on Friday, wearing my tiara I've worn every year since I turned 21 to announce my upcoming birthday. Fellow riders on the light rail and passers-by on the 16th Street Mall gave me funny looks, but I think eventually understood I had something to be happy about.

Corrine took me out to lunch at Chili's and while dining we were "cordially invited" by a young man at the restaurant to join him later for drinks. We respectfully declined.

The culmination of this year's milestone was on the night of Feb. 17, when Jessica (who shares the birthday with me) and I held a joint-birthday party. The Mardi Gras-themed party was held at her boyfriend Nate's house, which is right near the DU campus. We invited old friends and mutual friends and ceIebrated (almost) all night long.

I even got to reunite with a couple of friends I went to school with at Cottey College. The college, which is in Nevada, Mo., is small -- about 300 women -- so we were all pretty close. I'm so happy Kelly and Priscilla are now living in the Denver area, so of course we had to get together for my birthday.

The next day, Damon's family took me out to lunch at J. Alexander's near Park Meadows. Their chocolate cake with ice cream was awesome! I highly recommend it. Later on that night, my father and brother came up from Colorado Springs to take me out to dinner at Kokoro, a usual eatery for my family.

It was a good weekend full of fun, food, friends and family. Hooray for birthdays! I can't wait for my 26th next year.
