Dictionary.com defines a yuppie as follows:
-
A young, ambitious, and well-educated city-dweller who has a professional career and an affluent lifestyle.
Now by no means do I live an affluent lifestyle. To the contrary, I do my very best to exercise frugality with as much prudence as I can humanly muster (although, I do splurge on expensive lunches and dinners more than I probably should).
Nevertheless, I do consider myself ambitious and, without a hint of a doubt, I consider my position here at
YourHub.com extremely professional.
Furthermore, I consider myself to be a well-educated individual (or, maybe more aptly, well-informed) and, if you've kept up on my stories, blogs, etc., I am incontrovertibly a city-dweller. I find much joy in walking about the 16th Street Mall as well as Larimer Square. There is always much to see.
So, in this short blog, I confess to you, and I'm proud to say,
Simon P. Moya-Smith, of Edgewater, is a new-found yuppie ... minus the affluence.
(Don't tell my grandfather. He'll never let me live this down.)
And do chime in. Do you think the verb 'yuppie' has a negative connotation to it? After learning the definition, I'm leaning towards saying no. Your thoughts?
Kindly,
-Simon
