HubCap: How to avoid being the fat mom
Contributed by: Brendan Leonard/YourHub.com   on 11/30/2006

Over the past year, I have started to understand that I am not 19 years old anymore.

When I run, I sometimes get shin splints or minor pain in one of my knees. When I bike too much, sometimes my back hurts or I tweak someting in one of my calf muscles. All my injuries go away in a few days, but they nag me and I wonder why I can't just do what I want, go to bed, and wake up the next day just a little sore.

It's a little sad to me that I have to take it easy because I'm getting older. Some of my other friends are losing their hair, though, so I guess I don't have it that bad. Everyone gets old, right? Growing old is a privilege. My girlfriend tells me that age is kinder to men that it is to women, and at the risk of getting in trouble, I'm inclined to agree with her. For one thing, men's bodies don't have to endure pregnancy or childbirth.

Jennifer Coppola, of Parker, discusses this very phenomenon in her latest blog, " Fat Mom." She's had two kids since high school, and added a few pounds to her frame, causing her to ask, " When did I become the fat mom that I said I wouldn't become?"

Who doesn't want to be the mom "the husbands drool over and the other mothers are jealous of"? Well, I mean, I don't, but, well, you know what I mean.

Check out Jennifer's blog. You'll find something in there you can identify with. Unless, of course, you're 18 years old and running track, in which case, the rest of us are pretty envious.

I'm going to keep compensating for feeling old by doing more stupid things. Most of my weekend activities require helmets, and I've very recently run a four-mile race while wearing a gorilla suit. Not 19 anymore, but just as dumb. Well, at least I've quit drinking things that are on fire, anyway.
