Blog Entry 5 of 14 Random musings wandering the city
This blog will mostly hold my thoughts on day-to-day life - working, playing, and all the stuff in between. (There probably won't be pictures, as I haven't seen my camera in several years and it's definitely not a digital.) I work at an elementary school (helping kids learn to read and write), am an aspiring writer myself, and play violin in a band. (No, not like the "band" band in high school, a rock band.) (No, the violin works. I'm telling you.) I also spend time with my parents and newly married brother and sister-in-law, as well as friends. I am also passionately addicted to "Lost". (I figure that's one of the things you should tell people when you're first getting to know them, or you'll have to have an awkward conversation in the future.) (Kind of like whether or not you believe people have actually walked on the moon.) (I do.) And that's about it.

Everyone’s a little sluggish after a vacation

Some of you may have read my profile online and seen that I described myself as "passionately addicted to 'Lost.' " If so, you may be wondering why I haven't written about it yet. There are multiple reasons. First, I know that most people don't care. (Although, I would have to guess that those people have stopped reading already.) Secondly, and more tragically, I was a little disappointed at first. We come back after a three month break and it doesn't quite live up to the hype.

And don't even get me started on that break. I can understand shows taking a hiatus in the summer. People are outside in the evenings, or on vacation, and they don't watch TV regularly. But in the dead of winter? These producers are in gorgeous shooting locations like Hawaii and California. What they don't realize is, at that point of the year, most of us are snowbound and infirm. We're looking for something a little more involved than "Wife Swap" to take our minds off of everything.

Then, when the show finally does return, it's the same old, same old. No answers, no progress. It's like one of those soap operas where they spend 55 minutes of the hour on exposition and commercials. Yes, we know what's happening. We've been pondering it for three months. Let's move on! (And, FYI to the writers: Having a character repeat the same dramatic line over and over and in flashbacks? It lessens the impact every time.)

Although my feelings for "Lost" are a little harsh at the moment, I do have hope for the future. If a show was good at one point, it will be good again, right? Won't the intriguing characters, the interesting plotlines, the moments of suspense, emotion, and even comedy all come back someday? I think so. But maybe I'm just a sucker. I still watch "ER," hoping for the same thing.

I know. At least we got to spend some time with Hurley, and not whiny Kate or courageous Jack.

I agree with you Sarah. I hate to think of myself as addicted to certain shows on TV, but I got hooked on Lost last year. While watching this fabulous show last night, I experienced extreme frustration with each commercial break, the show managed not to reveal anything further to me. I'm started to get bored waiting around for the next set of clues.
