Lumberg Elementary students just got a jump start on learning with the help of a $3,500 literacy grant from the employees at Osborne Automotive.
With the help of
The Jefferson Foundation, Osborne identified Lumberg as a school in their community that would benefit from such a gift.
The grant has helped the school purchase a set of new books focused on a language and literacy-based reading for fifth grade ESL (English as a Second Language) students and a Connected Math Program that helps students mix algebra, geometry and mathematical skills in group projects with an emphasis on literacy.
"This gift will help us get students the materials they need to be challenged in the classroom," said Lumberg principal
Shatta Garcia-Mejia. "It's a start to a wonderful partnership with Osborne and we sincerely hope to get them involved in some of our other school programs."
