Well, here's your chance to find your very own spotlight. Encore Performing Arts Academy's open house on August 19th renewed an interest in youth theatre in Littleton, and the academy is responding to that demand by increasing its class offerings. These classes cover a wide range of ages and ability levels, so there is something for everyone.
MONDAY
5:00-6:30 p.m. Intermediate Improvisation
TUESDAY
5-6:30 p.m. Beginning Improvisation
7-8:00 p.m. Character
THURSDAY
5:00-6:00 p.m. - Acting Technique
This particular class focuses on the main building blocks of acting technique. In it students will learn from monologues, scenes and duets how to make believable choices on and off stage. They will also learn the building blocks for good technique as an actor and how to apply it. This class is an ongoing class. Drop in's welcomed.
SATURDAY
11:00-12:00 p.m. Beginning Sep. 9 - Acting Technique 1 (Ages 9-20)
12:00-1:00 Beginning Sept. 9 - Auditioning Class (Ages 13-20)
This class is a study on how to audition properly. Whether you're interested in auditioning for professional theatre or just around the community, this class will greatly increase your chances of getting the audition!
1:00-2:00 Beginning Sept. 9 - Character Work (Ages 9-20)
In this class, anything goes as students learn how to free themselves as actors and slip into another person's body comfortably. Students will learn how to define a characters walk, talk, and way of thinking through intensive exercises! When they're done with this course, you may not recognize them! This class is 6 weeks with an in house performance.
2:00 - 3:00 p.m. beginning Sept. 9 - Musical Theatre (Ages 13-20)
In this class students will learn the joys of musical theatre. They will prepare individual songs, duets, and group songs all while improving their voice, movement, acting, and stage presence. This class will also give students the chance to learn about the history of musical theatre and why it's so important to our culture. Theatre Improvisation promotes focus, connections and creativity onstage and is a vital skill in developing as an actor. We will explore character development, scenes and games that will promote a quick wit and laughter.
DATE/TIME TO BE ANNOUNCED:
Theatre, Techniques, Styles and Methods will take an in-depth look into acting performance and as a craft emphasizing detail, focus and discipline while developing a professional foundation as an artist.
Jake Williamson and Dave Karasik, directors of the summer drama camps this year, will be teaching these classes. Williamson has extensive experience in teaching children's theatre, as well as performing in local musicals and comedies. Karasik co-directed and coached the summer theatre camps, and also teaches private acting classes.
Other activities coming up in fall: Instructors Kate Smith, Colin Roybal, Jennifer Cress, and Samantha Staggs will begin teaching Encore's first youth choral group. Instrumental ensembles will continue, and Williamson and Karasik will make plans for winter holiday performances.
