Colorado Theatre Guild New Venture Series
presents:

Mutiny of Desire
Written by Steve Hunter
Directed by James O'Leary

(Denver, CO) On Tuesday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m., The Colorado Theatre Guild presents the next installment in an ongoing FREE series to showcase new works by Colorado playwrights. The Theatre Group at Theatre Off Broadway, 1124 Santa Fe Drive in Denver hosts the New Venture Series reading of "Mutiny of Desire" by Colorado playwright Steve Hunter.

On a British warship, isolated in the vast Indian Ocean, a dark and forbidden conspiracy unfolds -- six men will hang for committing crimes considered so unspeakable that all traces of their fate will disappear for a hundred and fifty years . . . until brought before the public in "Mutiny of Desire," a reading of the new full-length play by Steve Hunter. For mature audiences only, this play tells the story of the men who died, the ones who betrayed them, and a society which punished nonconformity with death.

The cast of nine men includes Zachary Andrews, Charles Kolar, Benjamin Koucherik, Stephen R. Kramer, Sean Mallot, B. T. Thornton and Ken Witt under the direction of James O'Leary.

Steve Hunter, a Colorado resident for 40 years, has had seven full-length and more than twenty short plays produced throughout Colorado, in Denver area theatres and other venues - including parking lots! His plays have received awards in the New Rocky Mountain Voices competition, the Rocky Mountain Theatre Association and the Paragon Theatre new play competition. Educated at Claremont, University of London and Stanford (Ph.D., history), Steve taught at several universities, including the Graduate School of International Studies at D.U. He has lived and traveled in more than 50 countries and written articles and books on history, art, drama and technical subjects. His goal in playwriting is to portray fully dimensional characters in situations which challenge audiences to confront their comfortable assumptions about life.

The program has been christened "The New Venture Series" and is dedicated to the memory of Al Brooks and Maxine Munt, who in 1966 founded Denver's influential performance venue The Changing Scene and operated it until the theatre's closure in 2000.

"Mutiny of Desire" is presented FREE to the public and will be followed by a talkback with the playwright, director and cast.
