OK, so you're one of those people who really love the smell and presence of a real Christmas tree. You've faithfully decorated and watered it, and it's very beautiful, but it looks so forlorn after Christmas, just sitting there at the curb, waiting for the trash pickup with the old boxes and torn wrapping paper.
Well, now you have an alternative. Turn it into organic compost, mulch and fertilizer. Good for you, good for the environment, and it doesn't just get buried in the landfill. And it only costs a dollar.
There are various Christmas tree collection sites around after the holidays, but the one where you can count on your tree being put to good use is the Rooney Road Recycling Center just south of Colfax, next to C-470. There's a dollar charge per tree to help keep the center open, and everything that's collected is ground up into wood chips, which are either sold as mulch, or mixed with other organic waste products such as food waste and water treatment byproducts, to make organic fertilizer and compost. These materials are used by many park and recreation areas in the metro area to beautify our surroundings
The Colorado company that makes all this possible is called A1 Organics. They've been in the organic recycling business for more than 30 years now, and operate several facilities around the state. The Rooney Road Recycling Center also accepts all sorts of brush, tree limbs, wood waste, unpainted construction lumber and plywood for recycling. So if you've been doing some yard work and don't want to pay huge fees to have the waste buried in the landfill, here's a great alternative. Call 303-710-9120, or click here for more information. Make the holidays even happier for everyone by investing your Christmas tree in next year's green space.
