"Summertime and the living is easy!" Wish it were true for all of us, but unfortunately it is not. Listed below are special stories of families that have come to us for help. We hope they are of interest to you and we can work together to help them and others like them.
Case 7383 Steve and Margie had, as they say, a year of "homelessness and hardship". They both were able to receive some education and get jobs. They moved into an apartment that they love. Margie is expecting their first child at any moment, so she is on unpaid leave from work. Steve had his hours temporarily cut back. They are terrified that they might lose their home. After the baby arrives, they have arranged their work schedules so that one of them will be able to be home to care for their precious child. $250.00 will help them keep their apartment.
Case 7382 Maurice, 35 years old, worked to support his wife, Wanda and children Charlotte, age 8 and David, age 3. His diabetes escalated and he had to stop working. He has lost sight in one eye and is having trouble with the other one. Wanda also has health issues. This family never thought it could happen to them, but they ended up homeless. They are eligible for subsidized housing and with a $300 deposit they can again have a home. Wanda is training for a job so they'll be able to keep their housing once they move in.
Case 7387 Paul was at the wrong place at the wrong time and, as an innocent bystander, was hit by a bullet. He and wife Shirley have three children ages 14, 9 and 5. He hasn't been able to work for the last five months and they have depended on Shirley's check. Her wages were garnished to pay for an overdue medical bill. Now they are in trouble on their rent and power bill.
The truth of the matter is we have many more families who are equally in need. Through lost jobs, divorce, desertions or other circumstances they find themselves really needing our help. Our program of one-time emergency assistance makes a difference - keeping people housed, helping them get into housing or keeping their utilities turned on. We have helped over 400 families already this year, but we are low on funds. We need your help to keep from having to turn people away. Your contributions will be put to work quickly to help families and individuals like these. One hundred percent of individual donations go directly to aid those in need. Please send your donations to Helping Hearts & Hands, 3805 Marshall Street, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. Helping Hearts & Hands is under the fiscal sponsorship of Family Tree, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization. Contact me at 303-936-9043 with any questions. Hope you can help. Thank you.
Note: Restricting donations to certain individuals may preclude the eligibility for a tax deduction. However, the "expression of a desire" for the donation to benefit a particular individual or case may not preclude the deduction. We will respect your stated desire to help particular individuals and cases, with the understanding that once a financial goal for a case is realized, we will use your contribution to assist other individuals or families in need.
