Angel Encounters

Angel Encounters....

Some people scoff at the idea of angel encounters. Other people heartily embrace the idea that angels walk among us, sent to help us in a time of need or to provide information that God wants us to have. Often we are used as an 'earth angel.' I've been helped by 'earth angels' and have been used by God to help others. Either way, it shows me that God is out there watching over us, trying to guide us through our lives. Knowing this makes me realize how we are all connected spiritually, through the universal consciousness...through God.

This column will appear on a regular basis with angel encounters provided by you the readers. I will not promote any religion, but will simply relate and discuss what I receive. We are a nation 'under God' and should be proud and honored that he watches over us.

For my first angel encounter, I will relate my own story:

In 1968, I was living in Kirsh-Goens, Germany. My husband was in the Army stationed at a small base there. My twin brothers were in Vietnam at the time serving in the Marines.

Early one moring I awoke and sat straight up in bed. I looked to my right and saw a uniformed soldier standing in the room. I was not scared but shocked at the sight of him. He was clear, but I could also see through him. He was looking away from me. Slowly he turned his head toward me. Then, mind-to-mind, he told me that my brother Bob was dead. He smiled. Then his image slowly faded. I quickly snapped out of my shocked state, and the reality of what he had told me hit me. I started screaming and praying that my brother would not die.

My husband, of course, woke up. He calmed me down and searched the apartment. It was secure. No one could have gotten in. When I told him what had happened, he incredibly believed me. He went in to the base that day and contacted the Red Cross. He asked them to contact my brother in Vietnam.

A week later I received a letter from my brother. He was all right. I was thrilled that he was alive! I must be going crazy! I told myself. Either that or I had had a very real, very bad dream.

Another week passed. We drove with another couple to the base to pick up our mail. There was a letter in the stack from Bob. I grabbed the envelope and noticed the return address: Saigon Hospital. My hair stood on end! I tore open the envelope.

I read the letter aloud. It said: "Dear Jonnie, I was just visited by the Red Cross. They said my sister in Germany was worried about me and inquiring after me. I told them that I don't know how you found out but that I was recently wounded when a land mine exploded. My hand was injured but I am going to be okay."

Stunned, I could say nothing. "See, you're not crazy," Lou, the husband of my friend Beth, said.

In reliving the angel encounter, I believe I was visited by my brother's spirit who reached out at the time of Bob's injury. I believe Bob's spirit visited me to tell me what was going to happen to Bob but offered me the opportunity to intervene and pray that my brother's life be spared.
