Set for another record-breaking blood drive, Bonfils Blood Center announces its 11th annual largest single-day blood drive, Drive for Life, on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at INVESCO Field at Mile High. Bonfils and the Denver Broncos call on the community to join the starting line-up that saves lives by giving blood at Drive for Life XI.
In the past 10 years, nearly 20,000 generous donors have made selfless contributions that have saved or enhanced the lives of up to 60,000 patients. Also since the inception of Drive for Life, Bonfils has welcomed more than 4,500 first-time blood donors. Now in addition to the satisfaction of helping kids with cancer and other patients feel better, donors who give their first-ever donation at Drive for Life are invited to participate in an exclusive club - Broncos Country Donor Club. Club membership entitles donors to special edition gifts including signed player photos, t-shirts and more when they commit to making regular donations within a 12 month period.
"Broncos Country Donor Club is a great addition to an already exceptional event," said Jessica Maitland, vice president of marketing and community operations for Bonfils Blood Center. "Not only does it allow us to recruit new donors into the Bonfils family, but it also gives us the potential to cultivate these donors to make repeat donations throughout the year which is essential to maintaining a safe and adequate blood supply."
All Drive for Life XI blood donors will receive a goodie bag filled with a commemorative Drive for Life t-shirt, lapel pin and more. In addition to the bag of goodies, Denver Broncos alumni, players and cheerleaders will be on hand throughout the day to sign autographs and thank donors. Drive for Life XI donors will also enjoy free stadium food and entertainment while having the opportunity to win some first-rate raffle prizes such as admission to Denver's top attractions and sporting events, lift tickets and more.
For the third year, Bonfils' Colorado Marrow Donor Program will provide complimentary testing for all Drive for Life attendees who wish to join the National Marrow Donor Registry. Registration includes completing a health history and consent form and submitting a sample of cells from a cheek swab for initial testing. Potential donors must be in general good health and between the ages of 18 and 60. For more information on helping patients suffering from blood related diseases such as lymphoma and leukemia and becoming a marrow donor please visit www.bonfils.org.
Drive for Life XI, presented by Bonfils Blood Center and the Denver Broncos, is made possible through the generous support of its sponsors - CBS4, The Denver Post and FM Sportsradio 104.3 The FAN.
Bonfils Blood Center celebrates 65 years of saving lives through its ongoing stewardship of the community blood supply and the instrumental role it continues to play in the lives of patients in need throughout Colorado and beyond. Bonfils Blood Center supplies blood to more than 200 healthcare facilities and needs to collect more than 4,000 blood donations weekly to meet the needs of the community and to be prepared for any unexpected events. For information about Bonfils Blood Center please call 303.366.2000 or visit www.bonfils.org.
