When a loved one requires long term care, chances are a woman will provide it - just look at these statistics:
-70% of unpaid caregivers are women, mostly wives and adult daughters.
-Typically, caregivers are married and in their mid-forties who provide an average of 18 hours of unpaid caregiving a week.
-Greater than 50% of employed women who are providing care make accommodations at work by coming in late, leaving early or working fewer hours while 1/5th gave up their work temporarily or permanently.
Women live about 5 years longer than men and are therefore more likely to be widowed as they age. It is not surprising that almost 75% of nursing home residents are women.
But who is going to care for the women? Are we prepared?
Do you know how much long term care costs in Colorado? Do you know that Medicare only pays for a small amount and only under certain circumstances? Do you have a plan? (Almost 80% of adults have not given any thought to financing long term care needs and nearly 90% are uninsured for long term care!) Do you know what health issues can lead you to being denied coverage?
On Thursday, Feb 22, 2007, join Brad Peterson from Genworth Financial, an industry leader in long term care insurance, as he clarifies the issues and explains why we as women need to understand the facts behind this daunting and emotional decision.
Cost: $10 payable cash/check at the door. Includes wine, non-alcoholic beverages, heavy hor d'oeuvres and presentation materials.
Time: 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Location: Arbor House is located at 14600 W 32nd Ave in Golden, 80401. (Take I-70 to Youngfield/W 32nd Ave Exit. At the light, head west on W 32nd Ave for about 1 mile. The Arbor House will be on the south side of street in Maple Grove Park.)
