Edgewater's own tiny town
Contributed by: Erin Feese/YourHub.com on 12/12/2007

Every year right after Halloween, Judy Hogan begins one of her favorite holiday traditions -- the construction of her Christmas village. The 80-plus array of miniatures -- including several churches, an ice skating pond, a Wal-Mart and a Tattered Cover book store -- take up nearly her entire living room.

"I need a bigger house!" laughs Hogan, who has been an Edgewater resident for more than 40 years.

It takes Hogan about three weeks to set up the village, which spans almost 19 feet. To give the appearance of a fresh blanket of snow, the buildings are arranged on sheets of styrofoam. In one area, tiny dancers waltz around a grand ballroom, and in another, a merry-go-round spins to tinkling music.

Hogan has been collecting pieces for her Christmas village since the late 1970s. She caught the collecting bug from her mother, who loved Christmas decorations. Hogan inherited several pieces for the village when her mom passed away, as well as animated Christmas dolls that sit in her window.

"I just couldn't give those up," she said.
