Determination shows from a flat head
Contributed by: Marjorie Foust on 2/13/2006

I just wanted to write a special story to share about the most important person that I have ever been blessed to love.  My son, Kyle.  Kyle is a very strong young man who can be quite determined, (like when he is doing multiplication and thinks he is "never wrong" when it comes to that!

I think I knew he would grow up to be stubborn and strong-willed from the day he was born.  He was my first, and is my only child.  Very special to me.  He has a way of getting what he wants quite often.  The day of his birth was no different.

As pregnancy progressed, and delivery time neared, my team of physicians were concerned.  Kyle was a big boy, and he had decided he would come out his way, when he wanted.  He had turned and was sitting comfortably, in breech position, head close to my heart.

The doctors suggested a c-section as the safest option.  They tried to manipulate him manually, but was unable to get Kyle turned.  Kyle's father and I decided breech was the way to go.  We sat with the head doctor and jokingly said "How about April Fool's day?".  The date was within 72 hours of the suggested time by the doctor, and Kyle's father was a Father's Day baby and I was a Halloween baby.  It only seemed natural.

Unfortunately the head doctor said she would not be available that day, and said she could work with the 2nd of April.  We went with that date, as we wanted the head doctor to be present.

Time past, the due date came near.  The Monday before my scheduled surgery,  I went about a normal day of cleaning and other small chores.  Around lunch time, my water broke.  Never being pregnant before, I wasn't sure, (as it was a slow leak at first).  Within twenty minutes I was sure what had happened and called Kyle's father at work, laughing.  He called the doctor and came right home.

By the time he got there, the doctor's office had called, telling me to get to the hospital.  Kyle was delivered in fine condition at 8:49 p.m. that night.

The catch is, the Monday he was delivered was April 1st.  His stubborness came through when we got to hold him for the first time.  His tiny head was flat as a pancake, from pushing up.  He had pushed so hard, he got stuck and had to be physically removed.  (Maybe he wasn't quite ready?)

In the end, we got our holiday baby, and got to play an April Fool's joke on the head doctor.  It was one of the best days of my life.

I love you Kyle,
Mom
