Mike Davis
, of Lakewood, an environmental health services specialist with Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment for 25 years, knows a lot about water quality, radon gas, mosquito control, plague and food safety. He also knows more than most about being a scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
Mike was recently awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America for his distinguished service to youth on the local level. He was one of only 15 awarded in the Denver area by the BSA National Council. Anyone who knows about being a Boy Scout, knows their awards don't come easy. They are earned.
Mike became a scout when he waseight years old and by the time he was 15 had earned the Eagle Scout Award. The list of Mike's service projects is impressive and includes conservation, teaching, camping, being a scoutmaster, a trainer and currently, serving as health and safety chairman of the Timberline District in the Denver Area Council. Each of the badges on his shirt has a project, story and many memories attached to it.
Mike Davis is a parent, a community member and an individual committed to providing youth with positive and educational camping and wilderness experiences. He says on earning the Silver Beaver Award, "I am honored. I wanted to give back to my community and that is what I continue to do. The Boy Scouts of America gives youth an opportunity to get away from our technology-filled world, experience the outdoors, learn about camping, wildlife and the environment. It was a great program when I was a kid and still a great program for my own kids. And now, it's a place where I am able to give back to others some of what I was fortunate enough to have experienced."
Congratulations Mike!
From all of your colleagues at Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment.
