Mrs.
Thora Crowfoot was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 13, 1906. Edgewater, a suburb west of Denver, incorporated in 1901, was still a very small rural community when Thora moved here with her family in 1910. Edgewater has been her home for 96 years.
She attend first through eighth grades in the old red brick school house. There were still wooden sidewalks in Edgewater during Thora's childhood, that she and her friends would roller skate on. She remembers the street cars that made their way from Denver into Edgewater.
Thora had several favorite childhood pastimes but the one that still puts a twinkle in her eye is when she talks about dancing. As a girl of nine, Thora was sent to the Denver Studio of Ballet. Her mother sewed her costumes and served as booking agent and fan club. Thora was busy performing at the Broadway and Orpheum Theaters, the famous Brown Palace Hotel, several local lodges and the City Auditorium. At 17 her mother died and so did Thora's dancing career.
Thora married
Charles Crowfoot in 1930; he died in 1974. They were married 44 years. Thora is now lovingly cared for by daughter
Charlene and son,
David. Another son,
Don, is deceased.
Mrs. Crowfoot has a remarkable memory. When in school geography was her favorite subject. To this day, to keep her mind sharp, Thora recites and spells all 50 states and their capitals.
To honor her 100 th year, the City of Edgewater is proclaiming September 13, 2006 "Thora Crowfoot Day" and hosting a birthday party for her, family and friends at Edgewater City Hall on September 14.
The City of Edgewater would like to have a "birthday card shower" for Thora. Cards should be sent to:
