There have been discussions about an ice arena in Edgewater. City council has proposed an ice arena that would replace the empty King Soopers location at 20th Avenue and Depew Street, hoping the revenue from an estimated 500,000 visitors to the arena could bring a large sum of money to the city.

I would like your opinion on this issue. Do you think an ice arena for Edgewater is a good idea? Have you heard a better idea for the empty lot? Will you use the ice arena in Edgewater? What have your neighbors said about this idea?

I grew up in Edgewater and now live in Wheat Ridge. I remember when that area was the track for Belmont Junior High. I think the ice rink is a terrific idea. As soon as a sheet of ice is built in an area, it gets used. There are hockey teams that travel miles to get ice time. I was working for North Jeffco Parks and Rec when they had their election to build the APEX Center and 2 sheets of ice. At that time, the voters approved it, immediately it was popular. This would be a boom to Edgewater and supported by the surrounding communities as well. You can't just live on the residents' and their tax generating revenues. To survive and thrive cities need to build something to bring in others to spend money in their towns...be it Super Target a new restaurant or an ice rink. And while they are in town they can visit Edgewater Inn, the new Thai place on 25th, shops in Edgewater and create further revenue. People with disposable income and time are what you want!
