Governor
Bill Ritter
and Mayor
John Hickenlooper
will attend the opening ceremony of the 7th annual Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, July 28 at 11:30 a.m at Sloans Lake Park in Denver. Joining them will be Denver City Councilman
Rick Garcia
, the festival's Honorary Chair Dr.
Susanna Choi
, festival honorary patrons
Jim
and
Linda Yip
, and a host of other VIP's and special performers.
The eye dotting ceremony will be a highlight of the opening festivities. Monks of the Denver Buddhist Cultural Society and Buddha's Light International Association offer a beautiful chant while guests come forward to help awaken the Dragon's spirit.
A race team parade through the festival grounds will precede the opening ceremony on the SCFD Tier III Performing Arts Stage. The opening ceremony will conclude with the 75-feet-long dragon of the Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu performing a dynamic Dragon Dance.
The 7th Annual Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is presented in association with Coors Brewing Company, Kaiser Permanente, SCFD Denver Tier III, State Farm®, 101.5 FM Martini on the Rockies, Comcast, FOX 31 NEWS and The Denver Post. Supporting Sponsors of the event are AARP, American Family Insurance, Colorado QuitLine, Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, MoneyGram International and PEPSI BOTTLING GROUP. Corporate Patrons include CH2M HILL, Denver Water, Premier Bank, Raytheon and Wells Fargo.
Founded in 2001 to celebrate Colorado's diverse Asian Pacific American (APA) communities, the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, has become the region's fastest growing fun, family-friendly summer festival. Named "Top Annual Festival" by the Rocky Mountain News and a "Best of Denver" event by Westword, CDBF offers festival-goers the opportunity to explore APA culture through performances, educational programs, arts and crafts, shopping, dining and the exciting athletic competition of dragon boat racing
