When
Shatta Garcia-Mejia
became Lumberg Elementary School's principal, he knew one of the first things on his to-do list would be to improve the school's playground.
By partnering with the city of Edgewater, the school has big plans to give the playground an ultimate makeover.
The school raised $24,000 through school fundraisers and carnivals to begin the first phase of construction on a new playground that the whole neighborhood can enjoy. By next summer, with help from a Great Outdoors Colorado grant, the project will be complete.
The entire neighborhood is excited for a play space everyone can use and event organizers need volunteers to gear up with wheelbarrows, shovels, gloves and hammers to kick off the installation.
Students, staff and community members will spend the day installing Duraliner, shoveling wood chips and constructing a climbing wall.
The new and improved play space and equipment will continue to be a community space where everyone's invited to play.
WHAT: Lumberg Elementary gives its playground a makeover
WHEN: Friday, July 25 from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
WHERE: Lumberg Elementary School's playground, 6705 W. 22nd Ave., Edgewater, 80214
