Picnics at Bear Creek Lake Park come with a view. The park’s newest picnic shelter is at Pelican Point and holds up to 300 people, making it a great place to host a summer gathering.
A grant from Great Outdoors Colorado made construction of the shelter possible. GOCO's mission is to help preserve, protect, enhance, and manage the state's wildlife, park, river, trail, and open space heritage. GOCO’s sole source of funding comes from 50 percent of the proceeds from the Colorado Lottery. Since it began awarding grants in 1994, GOCO has given almost $489 million to 2,100 projects throughout the state, and several projects in Lakewood have benefited from this funding.
Situated on Morrison Road near C-470, Bear Creek Lake Park is the crown jewel of Lakewood’s park system. At 2,600 acres, the park is one of the largest in the Denver metro area, offering a diverse array of recreational amenities including water skiing, boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, archery, camping, golfing, and picnicking. The Visitor’s Center also provides a variety of nature-related programs such as naturalist-led interpretative talks, wildlife conservation education, campfire programs and historic and cultural events.
