Blog Entry 91 of 93 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. So, I've noticed the buzz word for this year is "green. "

The Democratic National Convention is going green. U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi came to Denver on Monday to highlight that.

The Home and Garden TV channel's yearly dream home giveaway is a green house. They even threw in a GMC Yukon Hybrid to the winners to further stress the point of being green.

Denver residents observed Earth Hour on March 29 to encourage energy conservation. Though many folks saw it as a fruitless effort, it was no less a big publicity stunt that got people's attention.

And one of the things I'm not a fan of is the new marketing gimmick from Arrowhead water. They reshaped their bottles to use up less plastic, thus joining the green revolution. As they say on their Web site, "Doing our part." I would argue that buying less bottled water would accomplish that. But if folks are going to keep buying bottled water, then that's a decent plan.

Now, I'm not trying to steer folks away from being earth-friendly and mindful of the environment. But it seems to me that nowadays, being green is being in. I wouldn't want all these good deeds going to waste because being is green has become a fad.

Though, it's a nice indication that caring for the environment is no longer a "hippie thing." As I said in my blog headline, green is going mainstream. The public is now wanting to get involved and that's great. I'm hoping that his "green" mindset will last past the convention and past this year.

Last night, I purchased a reusable bag from my neighborhood King Soopers so I will no longer have to bring home mounds of plastic bags after grocery shopping.

Doing my part? I'd like to say so. Every little bit helps, I guess.

The important aspect of Arrowhead's marketing ploy is that they are at least beginning to understand that consumers are becoming aware. It is better to do small things than to do nothing at all. I have been using reusable grocery bags as long as I can remember.
