Blog Entry 40 of 96 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

Be mine, valentine
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 2/8/2007

OK, it's sappy, but I do love Valentine's Day. It's one of my favorite holidays of the year next to Halloween and Christmas. And it's not just because I might get flowers, candy or something shiny (though that's always a plus), but because it's a time to celebrate love.

I've been with my boyfriend Damon for more than two years now. According to me, we first met at a bar in Littleton called Pitcher's. I remember I was with a group of friends and he was there with us, and he was the only one I didn't recognize. I went up to him to introduce myself and ask him who he was. He looked at me funny, told me his name and added, "but we've met three times before."

Talk about confused and slightly embarrassed! To this day I deny having met him before that night. He still sticks to his story. Well, we got together the week of his birthday, Oct. 31, which is why I also love Halloween -- it's sort of our anniversary. We moved in together about five months later and here we are.

It's been good times and bad times for us. Living with someone isn't easy, and there were moments I thought we weren't going to be together anymore. But one of the great parts of a relationship is working out your problems and persevering through the tough times. What doesn't kill only makes you stronger, right?

Damon and I are opposites in many ways, like how we grew up as kids, our tastes in music and movies, who we consider to be the better Batman (for me, it's Michael Keaton, but Damon thinks Christian Bale was pretty good) and how we like our steaks cooked. Somehow, through it all, we make it work.

One of the best things I love? Coming home to hang out with Damon and our cat, Chester, and watching TV. I didn't write this to be the most epic love story ever, but I cherish Damon and what we've got going for us now.

In honor of this season of love, we're running a promotion asking you how you met your sweetie and what you love most about her/him. The prize for the best submission? A romantic getaway complete with an overnight stay at the Grand Hyatt in downtown Denver plus dinner and tickets to the Denver Art Museum. The deadline to enter our contest is Feb. 14, so be sure to register and post your love story today.

No "The Man in the Moon" or "Say Anything"? Happy Valentine's Day, Charmaine and Damon.
