I know I love my husband... I haven't always
Contributed by: Carissa Klipka on 2/1/2007

When I met my husband for the first time, I said to my friend, "That is the man I will marry and I WILL have his kids!"I believed it was that easy. You met, you married, you had children and lived happily ever after. I was in for years of tremendous pleasure and intense disappointment.

My husband and I were young when we met and married. Being so young neither one of us took our vows very seriously or understood that a relationship was cultivated. After 8 months of separation, we owed it to our daughter to at least talk about our marriage and see if we could work it out.

We made a life long commitment to never throw the "divorce" word around in the heat of an argument, it wasn't an option for us anymore. As far as we were concerned we couldn't live without each other so we were going to be happy together.

I know I love my husband, and I know I haven't always. With time and patience, our love has grown into something so much more than I ever could have imagined. I crave that man with an intensity that defies reason. I see my husband with our 3 children, and I respect everything about him.

I love the look on his face when he's proud of them. He makes me proud of him everyday. He reaches for me and I get butterflies, 15 years later. I see him across the room and feel safe in knowing that I get to be him for the rest of my life.

There is nothing we can do to change the past hurt we have caused each other. But we can, and do, spend everyday of the rest of our lives trying to make up for it. I will never see another man the way I see my husband.

He has a part of my soul that will never be replaced by another. When I wake everyday, I know I have a partner in life who will accept me, hug me, love me, cherish me, and never abandon me.

It took sacrifice, humility, and forgiveness for our relationship to work and the end result is my fairy tale, my dream come true!
