Blog Entry 57 of 95 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

Post-deadline thoughts

It's late afternoon on Tuesday, which means we've sent all our pages to press for the June 7 editions. I can't wait for this Thursday, since I'll have a day off. I worked this past weekend, and it wasn't so bad because the People's Fair was going on in Civic Center Park.

I decided to grab some lunch Saturday and check out the fair since in all my years here in Denver, I've never been to this festival. It was pretty cool, though very similar to the Taste of Colorado, which I've been to a number of times.

The major similarity between the two events lies with having to buy tickets in order to eat food. I'm not completely against this, since it does eliminate vendors from jacking up their prices during special events. What I don't like is how a certain number of tickets cost a certain amount of money but it's not equal to how you are able to get food. For example, at the People's Fair, it was advertised that nine tickets cost $5. That was almost reasonable; however, to get any decent type of meal is about 10 to 12 tickets, or for some food booths, 24 tickets.

So if I wanted to get a plate of barbecue chicken, I would have to give at least 15 tickets, which equals to about $6.50 (this is not exact nor probably accurate, but I am a journalist). Well, in the end, I had to buy about 18 tickets so I can have enough to buy food. This slightly annoyed me, since I was left with two tickets that will no longer serve any purpose. The moral of the story? Don't spend money -- period.

In other news, if you bring a canned good to any Denver area Chipotle today (June 5), they'll give you a burrito, tacos, salad or bol for free. I plan on going tonight with my friend Corrine and I am already armed with a can of diced tomatoes and a can of chicken broth (for her to give). I cannot wait.

And I saw this video last night on a friend's MySpace. I couldn't stop laughing; it is pretty darn hilarious. I hope you enjoy it, too.

I couldn't get the sound on the video. Thanks anyway. Hope your burrito was good.
