HubCap: Happy 50th blog, Karin!
Contributed by: Brendan Leonard/YourHub.com   on 10/9/2006

Sometime in June 2006, I e-mailed Karin Malchow, of Lone Tree, and said something to the effect of "Hey, Karin, you should start a blog on YourHub.com." I had read a few of the dry, sarcastic stories she had written about attending Lone Tree City Council meetings. The consensus among most of us here at World Headquarters was that Karin was pretty funny, and that we'd like to see more of her writing.

Karin's reply? It was something along the lines of "Blah blah, I think blogs are kind of boring and usually about the minutiae of people's daily lives, and I don't really want to write one, blah blah blah."

I struck back. "Blah blah blah, you don't have to write about doing laundry and your trips to the supermarket, blah blah blah. It can be anything you want it to be. Look at some of our other bloggers. They're not boring. Blah blah blah."

Karin: "I'll think about it. Blah blah blah."

Less than four months later, I am happy to report that Karin has posted her 50th blog entry on YourHub.com, in which she ponders corporate icons such as the Michelin Man and the Jolly Green Giant.Fifty! And from a woman who was wishy-washy, at best, about starting a blog. Here's a sample of her latest:

"Poppin' Fresh has less giggly, stomach-poking profile these days. Has he succumbed to the anti-carbohydrate faction in the war against obesity? Whatever became of his female partner, Poppy Fresh? Was their relationship questioned?"

Please join me in congratulating Karin on her 50th blog. Karin, we salute you with 60 percent heartfelt appreciation of you sharing your thoughts on this Web site, and 40 percent good-naturedly patronizing you with this artificial milestone, but in a fun way.

Karin blogs about anything that crosses her mind as interesting. Some of us can't be funny and interesting on as regular a basis, and we need a topic to write about. I write about YourHub.com. Here's a sampling of some of our other topical bloggers:

Micheal Geiger, of Arvada, has just started a blog all about plumbing problems and solutions. And it's not a plug for a business -- he doesn't even mention his business, if he has one. Which we don't know, because he hasn't ever mentioned it.

Jim Toft, of Denver, has started a blog all about our hometown Nuggets. It could shape up to be a good place to argue the ups and downs of the season. I'd disagree with him, if I knew as much about the Nuggets as he does.

Gene Weineke, of Northglenn, is the official fly in the ointment of the Northglenn city government. You will be amazed how much this guy knows about the inner workings of his city.

Rick Smith, of Arvada, has stepped up as the metro area's first official citizen meteorologist. Check out some of his observations here.

What are you into? Start your own blog here. It's not like any of us have a college degree inblogging or anything.

As host of the Lone Tree hub, I have to say Karin's a big part of what makes the site what it is. Thanks for being such a fun and engaging presence on YourHub.com.

Karin is indeed great. What am I, chopped liver? Just use me up and throw me away when you see someone with a younger, firmer blog. You editors are all alike. By the way, Jim Toft is my nephew. He was on the RIP boarding excursion.
