HubCap: Senate bills up for debate on YourHub.com
Contributed by: Brendan Leonard/YourHub.com   on 2/5/2007

I'm just a bill.
Yes, I'm only a bill.
And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill.
Well, it's a long, long journey
To the capital city.
It's a long, long wait
While I'm sitting in committee,
But I know I'll be a law some day
At least I hope and pray that I will
But today I am still just a bill.

Colorado Senate Bill 56 is only fair for men whose wives have cheated on them. Or, it concentrates too much on money and not enough on families, the definition of which is ever-evolving. It all depends who you listen to, or your personal opinion, which can be aired here on YourHub.com.

We've already got a nice little debate going over SB56, or the "Duped Dads Bill," as it's becoming known. Barbara Neff started things off, arguing in her blog that the bill is a bad idea. Her blog spawned quite a few comments from other users. Michael Rule couldn't fit his response in our comment box, so he wrote a blog in response, arguing that not only should the man not have to pay child support if DNA testing proves the child isn't his, he should retain visitation rights with the child.

Then Michael wrote another blog entry, this time saying, "The mom is guilty of nothing, and as a matter of fact should be given money by the non-biological father because she happened to be married to him when she was sleeping around. Maybe because he spent too much time at the office, who knows. Because anything different would not be fair to the child...Get friggin' real."

The Duped Dads Bill isn't the only one that has us talking. Jeffrey Schwartz argues that Senate Bill 34, which "Clarifies that a person cannot use a permit to carry a concealed handgun that is issued by another state if the person does not reside in the issuing state," wouldn't do anything to protect Coloradans and is just another example of anti-gun legislation.

Jeffrey says, "I'd hazard a guess that if any crimes have occurred at all in Colorado by someone holding a concealed weapons permit from another state, you could count them on one hand and not require half of your fingers to accomplish the task," in his blog. No one's argued with him so far.

Great, Travis and Bill. But, how do you feel about a father being able to demand DNA proof of paternity at any point in the lives of his children?

By far my favorite Schoolhouse Rock ever. I have the whole collection on videotape. On the serious side, I really have mixed feelings on this debate and can see valid points on both sides.
