Blog Entry 65 of 96 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

The best concert I've attended - No Doubt about it
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 8/13/2007

Well, you can already tell from my headline that this blog will be about my most memorable concert. I don't go to many of these events, mainly because I'm not up and up on when my favorite bands will be playing. (Although I subscribe to e-mail alerts by Ticketmaster.) Another reason is I'm a starving journalist. I can probably tick off the number of concerts I've attended on one hand. It's not a record I'm proud of, but I cherish the shows I've seen.

For the few concerts I have attended, they were excellent. The first and best rock show I went to was back in October 2002 when No Doubt headlined at the Denver Coliseum. Opening for them was Garbage, whom I was very fortunate to see perform. Shirley Manson has a mesmerizing voice. And although she told us she was getting over a cold, she still sounded beautiful. Garbage had a very laid-back show; not that flashy, but the focus was on the music.

When No Doubt came on stage, the energy definitely rose. Now, Gwen Stefani doesn't sound as great live as she does in the albums, but she gave a show like no other. She busted up the stage, got kids moshing and looked pretty hot in a black tank top. We were 15 feet away from the stage and I was close to being one of the lucky few who got to touch Gwen when she passed by, if it were not for a burly (and slightly pungent) man in front of me. Nonetheless, I thank my fellow University of Denver classmate, Carlos, for having an extra ticket so I would be able to go and see No Doubt before they broke up.

The No. 2 best/memorable/favorite concert on the list would be seeing Alice in Chains last November with my boyfriend Damon. I bought us tickets as a birthday and anniversary present for him. They performed at the Fillmore Auditorium and it was mind-blowing. You can read more about the experience here.

So, why am I telling you about my concert memories? Because right now, we're running a promotion asking users to write about their favorite summer concert memory for a chance to win a four-pack of tickets to see 1964 The Tribute band at Red Rocks on Saturday, Aug. 25. Want to know more? Click here. And hurry; the deadline to enter is this Friday, Aug. 17.
