Blog Entry 89 of 93 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

Mammoth madness?
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 3/21/2008

OK, I know we're now in the middle of "March Madness," the time when college basketball teams compete for the NCAA championship. As some of you may recall last year, I didn't pick the right teams to win. (Still, Duke all the way!)

However, this blog is not about basketball. It's about a sport that I personally didn't realize was huge here in Colorado. But according to this Rocky Mountain News story, the Colorado Mammoth consistently bring in thousands to their home games and have a positive cash flow. And is very much popular with the locals.

Lacrosse? Big here in Colorado? When I constantly hear this is Broncos country? Indeed, in an area where you only really see four sports teams: Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies and Avalanche, it's amazing to read about one of the lesser-known ones.

I saw a few lacrosse games when I was a student at the University of Denver. Actually, the lacrosse field was on the way to my dorm, so that's how I caught a few practices and games. Still, there were crowds when I passed by. I don't understand lacrosse. Heck, I'm still trying to understand baseball. And I don't think attending a Mammoth game will get me closer to understanding.

Nonetheless, I am determined to experience all the sportiness we have to offer. So far, I've attended many Rockies games, a couple Rapids games, a handful of Nuggets games and two Avalanche games. Can't afford Broncos, maybe in a few years I'll be able to see them play at Invesco Field. Maybe.

Haven't seen the Colorado Crush play or Mammoth. But with the most expensive Mammoth tickets at about $40 a pop, I don't think that's too bad. Perhaps my friend Jennifer can take a break from baseball and go with me sometime. I hear they sell really cute stuffed mammoths.

We've got some pretty good teams in Colorado. The Broncos have their work cut out for them now that we've lost Jason Elam. I look forward to the Rockies this year!
