Blog Entry 35 of 97 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

Can't get to my bus stop
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 1/17/2007

I didn't really own a car until last year when Damon's family gave me a black 1997 Chevy Cavalier. I couldn't believe their kindness and I was so happy to finally have a car to call my own.

Nonetheless, though I have a vehicle, I'm still pretty resourceful when it comes to getting around Denver. I'm quite familiar with the city's light rail system and bus lines. I know the times when trains arrive at a certain station or when a bus is going to stop near a major road.

Damon and I have been apartment hunting and I took off from work a little early yesterday to hand inour applications to The Marks on Hampden and Gilpin. I hopped on the D Line and made my way down to the Englewood station and caught the No. 35 Hampden Crosstown bus.

There is a bus stop right across the apartment complex and what do you know -- the place is covered in muddy snow! The bus driver was unsure whether or not to let me off, but I needed to make my way across the street.

I attached a couple of photos of what that bus stop looks like and how much snow is piled up on the side of the road. I don't even know how people get to it without first being in the street. I almost had a couple of cars run me over as I was trying to get to the actual bus sign.

All I am asking is for the sidewalks to be cleared so people can walk to where they need to go -- be it a grocery store, the post office or a bus stop. Some of us don't have cars and the only way we can get around is by walking.

RTD: I implore you to clear the areas around your bus stops to make it more accessible for your faithful riders. Thank you.
