Need Coats to keep our Homeless Veterans Warm!

Rolling Thunder Colorado Chapter one members Cathy (Gretchen) Claussen and Bob Heller are working in conjunction with Northglenn Elks #2434 and South Broadway VFW #2461 on gathering donated coats for the Veterans Stand Down November 12, 2009.

As stated on the flyer attached "each November the National Guard Armory located at Franklin and 58th in Denver, opens its doors to all Veterans providing several services from health to legal, along with providing some necessities to stay warm and clothed while homeless through the winter months here in Colorado.

These members have set up centralized drop off locations at both the North and South sides of Denver to make this a more efficient collection drive this year.

The last day for collections to be taken will be November 6 th, 2009.

HOMELESS VETERANS

STAND DOWN

Event Chairpersons: Cathy Claussen and Bob Heller

Each November the National Guard Armory opens its doors to hundreds of Veterans, young and old, to provide services such as employment, mental and housing counseling plus medical and dental screening and services. Also provided are shoes and clothing, hygiene items, and much more. Though it is a very rewarding experience to help out those who served our country it can be heart wrenching too. Last year we ran out of large men's coats. It was so very hard to have to tell some of these men and women "I'm sorry, but we do not have any more winter coats".

Our goal this year is not to have to say that to any of them.

We are asking for winter coat donations, mostly larger men sizes, but will accept any size you have.

We often take for granted the things that we have and that we have people to love and love us back. But for many of these men the feeling of being forgotten is with them every day. Through the Stand Down we can tell them "WE WILL NOT FORGET YOU!"

Please help us make it a little warmer for our Homeless Veterans this winter by cleaning out your closets and donating those old coats.

Donations are to be picked up the week before the Stand Down November 6, 2009
