Friday the 13th (of January), at 7 o’clock, the Attic Bookstore celebrated their new location, at 200 W. Hampden, Englewood, with a Grand re-Opening Celebration. Befitting of the date, the party featured an undead maid and butler, a violinist who played tunes like the
Adams Family
theme and the
Young Frankenstein
love theme, and fun edibles like chocolate eyeballs. Of course, the bookstore’s tenants, the two large and affectionate black cats
Edgar
and
Agatha
, made a valiant attempt to cross everyone’s path, like any good host. The night was punctuated with a Champagne toast and prizes for certain lucky guests. You can view highlight’s of the night on the Book Stories podcast available free through iTunes or Google Video.
The creepy Friday the 13th theme is prevalent in the store the rest of the year, making it a favorite hangout for local horror and science fiction writers. But in addition to the gothic horror decor, literary fantasy is brought to life throughout the bookstore. The children’s section is surrounded by massive white castle walls lined with bookshelves; within the walls children can sit on pint-sized sofa chairs or a unicorn rocking horse. A valiant black knight stands guard in the fantasy section. You can find a bubbling chemistry set display in the science section, and native masks from around the world in the travel section.
Roaming around the Attic Bookstore, you’ll find anything you want from a used bookstore. Private little nooks feature cozy chairs in the way Coloradans have come to expect from the Tattered Cover. The used bookstore accepts trade-ins and holds more than 50,000 books in all genres -- all priced to be friendly on a book-lover’s wallet. Unlike some used bookstores which have inaccessible piles of books everywhere, the Attic Bookstore presents a meticulously organized collection shelved as well as any new bookstore.
To find out more about the bookstore, stop by the new Englewood location from Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. For directions or to learn about monthly and special events, visit their Web site,
