Serving more than 1160 cases in 2007, Helping Hearts & Hands is experiencing tremendous growth in its 26th year reaching out to the Denver and Jefferson Counties. And, with the helping hand of Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric's "Crazy 12 for 12 Giveaway," Helping Hearts and Hands will continue to help those who "fall through the cracks."
Owner John Ward presented the February Giveaway winner and Helping Hearts and Hands Program Assistant,
Britton Slagle
, with a check of $1,000 on March 19. The money will be put to immediate and direct use in the communities where a little support can make a big difference, according Slagle.
"It is a real opportunity to help organizations that extend their reach and support out into our community," said Ward. "It is nice to extend our helping hand to the helping hearts of Denver and Jefferson County."
"With support from Applewood's $1,000 Giveaway, Helping Hearts & Hands will continue to have an impact on families and individuals in need," said Slagle.
Helping Hearts & Hands provides one-time emergency assistance to individuals and families who are in need. Assistance is given in order to help a family attain
self-sufficiency or when it will sustain a family's financial stability. The families and individuals that come to Helping Hearts and Hands are those who have been referred by human services agencies and have been declined assistance from three other sources.
Since its launch in 1981, Helping Hearts and Hands has provided more than $1.3 million dollars of assistance to more than 5,000 families and individuals. Helping Hearts & Hands has assisted families with a variety needs and expenses including: rent, energy payments, medical bills and car repairs. More than 200 human service agencies refer families to Helping Hearts & Hands.
