Empty Bowls bring in $10,000 to fight hunger
Contributed by: Cherry Creek School District on 12/21/2007

More than 40,000 meals will be provided to people in need, thanks to the generosity of the Cherry Creek Schools community. Students, parents, staff members, families and friends donated more than $10,200 to the Food Bank of the Rockies during the second annual "Empty Bowls" fundraiser, held Dec. 4 at Cherry Creek High School.

The event featured hundreds of "empty bowls" made by students and staff members from Cherry Creek High School, Cherokee Trail High School, West Middle School, Campus Middle School, Belleview Elementary and Homestead Elementary. The bowls are reminder of the empty bowls and hunger that exists here in Colorado and around the world.

The bowls were sold for a minimum contribution of $10, which included freshly-baked bread donated by Panera Bread and delicious soup donated by Spicy Pickle and McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant DTC.

Last year, hundreds of people attended the first annual "Empty Bowls" fundraiser, donating more than $6,000, which helped Food Bank of the Rockies provide 27,000 meals to people in need.
