Mount Everest Climber Featured at ACC Luncheon
Contributed by: Arapahoe Community College Toni DeVolder on 3/19/2008

Only a handful of people in the world have reached the summit of Mt. Everest. Jake Norton has done it twice, and he's only 33! Jake, a professional climber and photographer will give an inspirational presentation at the Arapahoe Community College Foundation's second annual scholarship recognition luncheon on April 10. The luncheon, Education: Stairway to Achievement will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Inverness Hotel and Conference Center, 200 Inverness Drive West in Englewood.

Jake is dedicated to helping people overcome obstacles and conquer dreams. He will discuss the relationship between climbing Everest and working towards a college degree. The event will honor donors who have supported the Foundation and have helped many students overcome the financial barriers of a higher education. Rubi Nicholas, the 2006 winner of the Nick at Nite Funniest Mom in America contest, will be the master of ceremonies.

Profits from the event will support First Generation College Students. This ACC program is designed to support students who are the first in their family to attend college and receive a degree.

Arapahoe Community College Foundation Executive Director, Courtney Snowberger explains "Events like this are successful through the support of our community.
