High Plains teacher spends break in Saudi Arabia
Contributed by: High Plains Elementary on 3/16/2007

Karen Connors, a teacher-librarian at High Plains Elementary won't be flying off to a typical spring break destination. Her plane departs March 27 for a two-week all expense paid trip to Saudi Arabia with 23 other educators from throughout the United States. Her trip is sponsored by the Aramco Educators to Saudi Arabia Program and is awarded to select social studies teachers and librarians.

"I never dreamt that I'd be able to visit Saudi Arabia, so when the opportunity came along, I went for it," said Connors who will tour the cities of Dhahran, Rihadh and Jeddah to study the educational system, industry, history and culture of the country. She is most excited to visit elementary and secondary schools in Saudi Arabia.

"I will be posting to my blog while I am there," said Connors who has been instrumental in bringing technology into every aspect of the teaching experience at High Plains.

"So much of what our kids know about that part of the world seems scary and I think it will be good for them to see a familiar face there," said Connors.

"We are really proud of Mrs. Connors, said High Plains Principal, Dr. Linda Gutsch. "Not only did she win a very prestigious honor, but so did the High Plains students who will learn from her adventure!"

High Plains Elementary is located in the Cherry Creek School District at 6100 S. Fulton St.
