Photographer Fielder, Author McAdam Team Up to Produce Imaginative, Visually-stunning Work

Question: What do you get when Colorado's premier nature photographer combines forces with a local award-winning children's author?

Answer: Beautiful pictures and captivating verse brought together in their new kids' book, Do You See What I See?.

Do You See What I See? challenges not only young readers, but those of all ages, to recognize that nature's details are often as magnificent and mysterious as nature's landscapes.

For each photo in the book, a cutout and inspired poetry verse explore the mysteries of a small detail of the natural world, while turning the page reveals its place in one of nature's grand landscapes.

Photographer John Fielder, of Greenwood Village, and children's author Claudia Cangilla McAdam, of Highlands Ranch, have worked at their respective crafts for three decades, and their experience shows. In addition to publishing 37 exhibit-format books and guidebooks, Fielder has labored tirelessly to promote the protection of his state's open space and wildlands. He has been honored statewide, and his work has been recognized with awards from the Sierra Club, the University of Denver, and the University of Colorado.

McAdam has authored or co-authored nine books, including last year's metro-area best-seller, The Christmas Tree Cried . . . the story of the White House Christmas tree. This book received White House attention when First Lady Laura Bush herself requested an autographed copy of the book. Additionally, McAdam has won awards from Highlights for Children magazine for both her fiction and nonfiction work.

"John Fielder's photos are absolutely beautiful," says McAdam, herself a nature photography enthusiast. "His work inspired me to pen the text for the book which appeals not only to kids, but to their parents, grandparents, and teachers as well."

Fielder and McAdam will be making local presentations and giving readings of Do You See What I See? followed by book signings at the following area events:

Sat., Nov. 11, 11:00 a.m. at Compleat Gourmet & Gifts, 7592 S. University Blvd., Centennial, (303)290-9222

Sat., Nov. 11, 2:00 p.m. at Tattered Cover, 9315 Dorchester Street, Highlands Ranch, (303)470-7050

Tues., Nov. 14, 7:00 p.m. (slide show presentation and reading), sponsored by the Highlands Ranch Photography Club, Highlands Ranch Public Library, 9292 Ridgeline Blvd., Highlands Ranch, (303)791-7703

"We're looking forward to sharing Do You See What I See? with others who appreciate the beauty Colorado has to offer," McAdam says. "We believe kids will be intrigued as they stretch their imaginations and broaden the ways they think about the natural world."
