"I love to laugh," said one resident during"The Sunny and Cher(i) Show"at the Caley Ridge Assisted Living Center, located at 9350 E. Caley Ave. Professional storytellers Sunny Marie Hackman and Cheri Seeton add comedy to their show with a mixture of stories, improv, clowning, jokes, magic and music.
The activities director encouraged the audience to laugh and have a good time. A runner, she believes that the intensity of laughter is equivalent to sustained jogging. The residents got their exercise.
The intimate setting at Caley Ridge afforded an opportunity for the performers and the audience to play together and truly be themselves. This is where the best comedy is found. "The 'seniors' think we're fantastic, but they're the ones who make the show great; we only hand them the tools," added Hackman.
Even the resident dog, Cowboy Boots, got in the act in the end as he grabbed a feather boa prop and raced through the crowd. People who come together in playfulness can rediscover the forgotten miracles of life. Memorable days vibrate with imagination.
