Historic Denver-Capitol Hill is blasting back to the past. Break out your flapper dresses and pinstriped suits for the Molly Brown House Museum's Speakeasy Cocktail Party on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
When guests arrive, they'll receive a "speakeasy password" which they will speak through a sliding panel in the door to gain entrance to this event, just as guests to a speakeasy did in Denver during the 1920s. Once inside, guests will learn from costumed volunteers details about what Margaret Tobin Brown was doing in the 20s. They will also have an opportunity to listen to a reading by local actor Jim Hunt portraying the late, great Ernest Hemingway in the library. Another Local actress will entertain guests as Dorothy Parker before guests adjourn to the Molly Brown House Museum Ballroom where they will enjoy cocktails from the era including martinis, Tom Collins', gin and tonics, and IBC root beer all served from a 1920s enamel bathtub.
Passed appetizers, similar to those served during the time period, will be offered by volunteers dressed in 1920s attire while guests mingle, chat and talk to local actors in character. Even the music comes from the 1920s and it's rumored that some guests are arriving in classic 1920s Model A automobiles!
Speakeasy establishments, surrounded by jazz music and the underground thrill of the Prohibition era, were common hangouts for those seeking a thrill. Recapture this spirit of freedom and be entertained by characters from the past as you enjoy the glamour of the Roaring 20s during this exciting Saturday night event.
