Organizers of this year's First American State Bank Fitness Festival recently announced the winning T-shirt design for this year's event, which was created by
Emily Abele, age 9, of Creekside Elementary School. Her "Running is Good and Fun" design was chosen among 60 other entries from children ages 5-18 within the Cherry Creek School District.
"I love to run," said Emily. "I run with my dog,
Haley, every day. I think it's important for everyone to be in good shape."
Emily's winning design will be displayed on all participant T-shirts at the 2007 First American State Bank Fitness Festival, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Crescent Park in Greenwood Village. The Festival includes the Kaiser Permanente 5K run/walk, food samplings from some of the top restaurants in the area, entertainment, silent auction, prizes and lots of family fun.
Two runners-up in the contest were on-hand when the winning entry was recently revealed -- Homestead Elementary School student
Madeline Meadows and Polton Elementary School student
Megan Martin. Meadows, age 7, was selected for her "Live Healthy" design. "I came up with 'Live Healthy' and a heart because I know that a healthy heart is a happy heart," said Madeline.
Megan Martin, age 11, was the third finalist for her "In Pride We Stride" design. "The Fitness Festival inspires us to become healthy - to become role models and inspire other people to be healthy too," said Megan.
The Fitness Festival benefits the Community Asset Project (CAP), a partner with the Cherry Creek School District. During the past six years, the Festival has raised more than $350,000 to support CAP in its efforts to foster and develop positive behaviors and attitudes in children, thus laying the foundation for future success while deterring negative behaviors such as alcohol and other drug use and acts of violence.
