More than 200 people came out and bowled in support of the Colorado Greyhound Adoption during the group's sixth annual Extreme Bowling for Greyhounds tournament at AMF Belleview Lanes in Englewood on March 30.
Kathie Buckley
, a CGA volunteer, said the annual event has raised more than $14,000 since it began six years ago. This year's event raised about $4,000, topping the $3,300 raised last year, she said.
Buckley also said the fundraiser was an opportunity for members to connect with each other and for prospective owners to meet greyhounds waiting to be adopted. The Colorado Greyhound Adoption has more than 700 members, according to Buckley, and people from across the country have joined the organization. The group is entirely foster-based; however, it is not a rescue, Buckley said.
"These are retired racing dogs who have led comfortable lives and we foster them to be able to join a real home," Buckley said.
In addition to the bowling tournament, the CGA has more fundraising events in store, including a golf tourney in July. For more information on that event and the Colorado Greyhound Adoption, go to
