Raising Spirits wine tasting raises funds
Contributed by: Jamie DeBartolomeis on 11/20/2008

Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network's (ADMHN) 4th annual "Raising Spirits" Wine Tasting and Auction on Oct. 23 raised more than $35,000 for uninsured and underinsured low income individuals in need of mental health and substance abuse treatment services.

"We're grateful to have this additional money to fund treatment services to people with low incomes who either don't have insurance or whose insurance plans don't offer adequate coverage for mental health services," said Scott Thoemke, Executive Director/CEO, ADMHN.

More than 200 people attended the event at the Sanctuary Golf Course in Sedalia. Major sponsors were Davidsons Liquors and Citywide Banks. Professional auctioneer Gary Corbett led the live auction which included an African Safari package, a foursome of golf at The Sanctuary Golf Course and unique opportunities to experience the cockpit in United Airlines' flight simulator or train with professionals at the Douglas County Sheriff's tactical shoot house.

Attendees bid on 50 silent auction items many of which were participatory in nature, like
spending the day with the brewmaster of New Belgium Brewery or riding with fire fighters with South Metro Fire Rescue. Halloween baskets featuring presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain were very popular among the gift basket offerings.

Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network, founded in 1955, is a private, non-profit organization that provides comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment services to individuals of all ages.
