Local Boy Scout has a mission for flag day

Shawn O'Donnell a local Boy Scout has made his Eagle project the collection of American flags that are torn, fayed or faded for there proper retirement.

Shawn decided on this project after last years 4 of July party at a neighbor's house. There were a lot of veterans from WW2, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq and they were talking about how sad it was to see so many flags around in bad shape. This was when it Shawn decided to make getting the information out about retiring a flag properly and doing a flag retirement his Eagle project.

He has set up collection boxes at a few places Ascension Lutheran Church 1701 W. Caley Ave. Littleton Co.(north entrance), Saint Philip & Saint James Episcopal Church 2797 S. Lowell Boulevard Denver Co., King Soopers 5050 S. Federal Denver Co. (West entrance), Boy Scouts of America 2929 W 19 Ave., Denver and the VFW Post- 2689 W. Hampden Sheridan Co.9644

Shawn will have the collection boxes out until June 7 for a retirement ceremony on Flag Day June 14. As he tells people he talks to "When you look around there are lots of flag in bad shape and most people don't know what to do with them or where to take them. As scouts we need to make people aware of what should be done and help them with it".

I wish there were more stories about the GOOD things our teens are doing in your paper. Great story!!!
