Contributed by: Jean Ray on 3/20/2007

South Suburban Parks and Recreation has introduced two new fitness classes, Hatha Yoga and Tae Kwon Do, to Sheridan Recreation Center, 3325 W. Oxford Ave. Hatha Yoga is a form of exercise that emphasizes specific postures in combination with controlled breathing. Practiced regularly, your body will gradually achieve greater endurance and come to its natural weight. Your spine will become more flexible improving circulation and reducing stress. Experience more pleasant thoughts and fewer negative emotions gaining vibrant physical and emotional health. Yoga classes are offered to adults at Sheridan Recreation Center on Wednesday's from 4-5 pm and are included in your daily admission fee.

Tae Kwon Do is an Olympic sport introduced to the Olympics in Korea in 1988. Tae Kwon Do techniques are graceful, powerful movements that develop posture, excellent coordination and attention to detail. As a Tae Kwon Do student, you will obtain self-defense skills greatly reducing the chance of sustaining an injury due to a fall or an attack. Done consistently, invaluable physical and mental improvements occur such as acquired strength, flexibility, endurance, speed, balance, memory, concentration, coordination and self-control. Tae Kwon Do exercises are fun and when you see the results, you will be inspired to do more. Ages 4 to adult can participate in Tae Kwon Do classes at Sheridan Recreation Center on Monday nights starting at 5:30 pm. Monthly registration is required at www.sspr.org or 303-347-5999.
