Dr. Thomas L. Stone, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Englewood, was among a select group of surgeons from around the world who became Fellows of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) during convocation ceremonies recently at the college's recent 92nd annual Clinical Congress in Chicago.

By meeting the college's stringent membership requirements, Fellows of the College have earned the distinguished right to use the designation "F.A.C.S." (Fellow, American College of Surgeons) after their names. An applicant for Fellowship must be a graduate of an approved medical school, must have completed advanced training in one of the 14 surgical specialties recognized by the college and must possess certification by an American surgical specialty board. Before admission in fellowship, the surgeon must further demonstrate ethical fitness and professional proficiency.

The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the care of the surgical patient.

Dr. Stone received his dental degree in 1993 from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his medical degree in 1996 from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed a general surgery internship and residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Parkland Hospital (which is associated with University of Texas Southwestern). He is currently practicing at Colorado Surgical Arts, located in Englewood. In 2002, Dr. Stone attained board certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Stone has a strong professional interest in craniomaxillofacial reconstruction (including dental implants) as well as facial cosmetic surgery. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons.

In 2005, Dr. Stone served on a craniofacial surgical mission to western China with Colorado-based Chinese Children Adoption International. He was part of the surgical team that performed reconstructive surgery (including cleft lip and palate) for 53 orphans in order to improve their chances of being adopted nationally and internationally.

Dr. Stone is married to Dr. Kimberly Stone, a dermatologist. They are the parents of five children. They are very active in church and community projects.
