Dex knows local search in Denver
Contributed by: Sarah Berkman on 8/9/2007

New Look of Community Directories and Launch of DexKnows.com

Denver residents are seeing big changes from Dex this summer. Not only has the new local search site DexKnows.com ™ launched, but the newly designed Dex ® Yellow Pages community directories are now arriving on doorsteps throughout the city.

The seven Dex Yellow Pages community directories* feature new information, such as localized shopping mall guides and street maps, and a new look and feel, adding green to its current color palette of blue and yellow. The new community directories now have a predominantly green cover.

The new Dex community publications are each customized so that the information is relevant to the residents in the community. Each book is different and offers unique insight into local businesses at the community level with easy-to-read business listings and important neighborhood information, including:

· Customized covers with photos of distinctive landmarks in each community, such as Roxboro Park on the cover of the South Jeffco Directory or Downtown Denver from City Park on the cover of the Central-Downtown directory

· Shopping mall guides featuring maps and retail information for three to five specific malls unique to each community book

· Sample menus under "Restaurants," one of the most popular headings in the Yellow Pages

· Coupons located at the back of various headings within the directories

More than Print Directories

Focused on making local search easy for Denver residents, Dex offers more options to consumers including electronic copies of local community directories, CD-ROM directories and DexKnows.com, a comprehensive online search solution.

DexKnows.com represents the next generation of online search and builds upon DexOnline.com ® - a market-leading local search site with more than 17 million searches over the past year in Denver. DexKnows.com extends DexOnline.com's capabilities with a variety of new features, all designed to make local searching more personalized and productive:

  • "My Dex" - offers a resident the ability to personalize their preferences and search results. Information such as starting locations (their home or office), past itineraries and favorite area restaurants are stored and ready the next time they log-in to DexKnows.com.
  • "My Itinerary" - enables residents to create a printable document with detailed directions and a map showing the best route between multiple destinations.
  • Comparison Tool - facilitates side-by-side comparisons on selected businesses to find relevant information such as hours of operation, credit cards honored, discounts, services and more.
  • Enhanced Mapping - allows residents to see destinations and businesses in relation to one another - making search by location easier.

In addition to DexKnows.com, the popular CD-ROM version of the Dex directory is also available free to Denver-area residents by calling toll-free 1-877-2-GET-DEX (1-877-243-8339). The CD directory, an electronic duplicate of the print version of Dex's White and Yellow Pages, can be installed to run on a single computer or a local area network (LAN). Users with an Internet connection can access the digital version online at DexKnows.com/viewdirectories.

Recycle outdated directories

Denver area residents can help the environment and their community by recycling outdated Dex directories when the new book arrives. Since 1991, more than 20,000 tons of outdated phone books have been recycled because of the efforts of involved communities and Dex.

The local community is helping residents by making recycling last year's phone book even easier with curbside recycling options and several community recycling drop-off sites. For more recycling information, residents can call 1-800-422-8793.
