Arapahoe/Douglas Works! celebrates Workforce Development Month

AURORA, CO --- Throughout Sept. Arapahoe/Douglas Works! will host a variety of events for job seekers and businessesin high growth industries such as biosciences, aerospace/aviation and finance in celebration of Workforce Development Month.

Workforce Development Month activities will begin 7:30 a.m. Sept. 5 with an invitation-only Kickoff Event at the A/D Works! CentrePoint facility in Aurora. Guests will include economic developers, employers and industry association leaders, educators, small business services and leaders from local Chambers of Commerce.

A panel will give an overview of the workforce system and how employers can use it to find qualified candidates. Discussions will focus on local employment data, how employers can make the Workforce Investment Act work for them, youth programming, and get anoverview of the biosciences, aerospace/aviation , homeland security and finance industries.

Employers using A/D Works! will present tips on how businesses can get the most from the workforce system. Guided tours will be given and networking opportunities will abound.

Each of the remaining weeks will highlight a high growth industry sector: Sept.10 - 14 - aerospace, homeland security and aviation; Sept. 17 - 21 - biosciences and health care; and Sept. 24 - 28 - finance, including banking, insurance, investment and real estate. Corresponding activities will include panel discussions on each industry, skills that are needed most to succeed and potential career ladders.

Employers can meet qualified candidates and use interview rooms for no cost. Clients and guests will have an opportunity to tour CentennialAirport , the automotive service technology facility at ArapahoeCommunity College, the Community College of Aurora Wired Initiative Biotechnology project, and the FitzsimonsBioScienceParkCenter on the University of Colorado Health Sciences campus. Participatns also will financial strategies for those 50 years and older, and youth, ages 16 and older, can sample some of the excitement of these industries and enjoy activities including a GPS scavenger hunt, flight simulator and Ameritown.
