Every day,
Cherry Creek School District bus drivers and bus assistants climb aboard 189 regular school buses and 85 special needs school buses. They drive 960 different routes (logging nearly 2.7 million miles a year!) And they make sure nearly 28,000 students get to and from school safely.
Some of those children are Special Education students who have medical or physical needs that make transportation more challenging. That's where Cherry Creek's Transportation Dream Makers come in.
These bus drivers and bus assistants have a special place in their hearts for Special Education students and get specialized training to meet their individual needs. Whether a student has autism, a vision or hearing impairment, or a physical disability, these caring professionals are ready to meet their needs and make the ride to and from school safe and enjoyable.
On April 30, fifteen bus drivers and bus assistants were honored with the district's 'Dream Maker' Award for their work with Special Education students.
"After reading your nominations, I know these students look forward to seeing you on their way to and from school each day," said Dr.
Scott Siegfried, Executive Director of Student Achievement Services, which includes Special Education. "It's clear that their parents trust you and know their children are in good hands. Your outstanding efforts make a positive difference in the lives of our students and their families."

The Cherry Creek School District Dream Maker Awards recognize the extraordinary day-to-day actions of employees who make a difference in the lives of students with special needs. Deserving employees were honored at Dream Maker receptions during the 07-08 school year.
