My name: Raymond Daniel Tomasso Jr.

Office I'm running for: Englewood City Council, District One

Age: 57

My family: Wife Diane; daughter Harper, 16; father Ray 94; and a cat

What I do: Papermaker and artist working in cast paper and glass.

My favorite place in town to hang out: Englewood Library

What I like most about living here: Englewood has a small town feeling, where neighbors go out of their way to help each other. There is an attitude that "we are all in this together," and each of us can, with the help of city staff, make a difference in our quality of life.

My interests and hobbies: Collecting old printed ephemera and doing letterpress printing.

What is my favorite thing to cook: Spaghetti

People who inspired me (and how): My wife Diane inspires me with her compassion, nurturing nature, and her devotion to historic preservation and its enrichment of community life.

How I have contributed to the community: For the last four years I have served as Englewood City Council representative for District 1 and as Council Liaison to the Joint School-City Committee, the Library Board, Transportation Advisory Committee and the downtown Business Improvement District. I am also on the Board of Trustees for Englewood Arts.

Prior to my election to Council, I served on the Business Sub-Committee of the City's Twenty-Year Comprehensive Plan Committee, as Vice-Chair of the Englewood Cultural Arts Commission, and as a member of the General Iron Works Developer Selection Committee, the Englewood Jubilee II Committee, and Art at the Station Selection Committee.

What are the biggest issues facing Englewood now:

* Creating a fiscally responsible budget that sustains Englewood's quality of life, both today and into the future.
* Attracting new retail, restaurants and manufacturing that support community goals.
* Increasing housing quality and variety through appropriate rehabilitation and new construction.
* Enhancing our schools and increasing opportunities for youth.
* Controlling traffic to improve safety.
